Introduction to Color in Film Preliminary Exercise Black/White

Image
Black and white in film are more complex colors and they usually have more complex themes associated with them. These colors are usually used to highlight the end of a character's journey or a new beginning for them. In my two examples below we a see a character ending their story and another's story just beginning. These colors are necessary to highlight on a character's journey throughout film. Without these colors it would be hard to highlight on a new beginning and end. These colors were the most interesting to me while analyzing them. I am able to tell very clearly when a character's story just begins and when it ends because of black and white. These colors are associated with darker and complex themes. Me not working with anyone on this exercise allowed me to gain all understanding of what these colors meant. These colors are necessary in film because of the growth highlighted with these colors.

Introduction to Color in Film Preliminary Exercise Warm/Cool Colors

Image
Warm and cool colors in film don't play as huge a role as other colors. These colors are usually associated with comedies, family stories and in dramas. The colors are usually seen in more calm scenes with our characters. In my example below the scene is a very calm before the storm moment. These colors are definitely not as important as primary and secondary colors or black and white. I learned a few things about film through warm and cool colors. I can tell when a scene is less impactful because of these colors. No themes are associated with these colors usually. These colors are just fun extra additions to film. These colors were definitely the low point of the exercise, but I was still able to learn a few things.

Introduction to Color in Film Preliminary Exercise Primary/Secondary

Image
Primary and secondary colors are used to convey emotion in films. Primary colors are typically used when a character is going through a massive change. As you can see below in my examples both characters are undergoing two different changes anger and acceptance. Primary colors in film are necessary to convey emotion. Without these colors scenes would not be able to convey the impact of the moment. I learned a lot of things because of this exercise. I am able to tell the genre of the film because of the colors used. If a film has lots of bright colors more than likely it will focus on more simple themes. I did not work with anyone for this exercise, but I feel like that made this exercise more informative because I had to learn what every color meant in film. This exercise was a great experience and it made me appreciate colors in film more.

Analyzing Setting for National Lampoon's European Vacation PowerPoint Presentation

Image
Setting in film is the where the movie takes place. Some characteristics of film are cinematography, editing, sound and performance. The most predominant characteristics to a producer are communication skills and creativity because your relationship with the crew needs to be top priority. The least predominant characteristics to producers are organizational skills because the other characteristics weigh them out. Setting is an important mise en scene element because it often sets the mood and tone for the movie, and it sets up our expectations for the film. The main objective of this assignment is learning more about setting and why it is necessary in film. Our group will be creating a short film. We are analyzing another film and its setting. The movie is about a group of Americans coming to England and they are perceived as dumb. The family is very average, but the people see them as idiots. We see the characters in a yellow car compared to the people from London in darker colors po

Preliminary Exercise 3 B: Introduction to Genre Conventions Bubble Organizer

Image
Genre in film is the category that defines what the film will styled to be like. The genre is important because it allows the audience to know what to expect in the film and they can get a general understanding of the premise. 3 genres that I am interested in are horror, action, and mystery. Horror genres typically aim to scare the audience or disgust them with darker themes, and they touch on heavier topics while action genres are usually simpler and involves a protagonist in a series in events that involves using some form of violence to stop the antagonist, mystery genres are more secretive and contain darker colors to build upon mystery usually revealed at the end of the movie. I selected these genres because I like stories that are easily accessible and have a broader audience. The media text used is print media and it is supposed to engage my audience with its audience. For this assignment we were instructed to learn about mise en scene and to see how they come together in film.

Preliminary Exercise 3 A: Introduction to Mise en scene Codes Organizer

Mise en scene is the placement of actors and scenery on stage for a film or televisions production. Mise en scene is important in film because the placement of actors and the scenery around them is key and without it the film becomes lifeless. The elements of mise en scene are sound, music, setting and design. Three things I took from this video was without mise en scene there is no movie. Every element of mise en scene is just as important as the one acting the scene. The setting is also essential when making films. https://browardcountyschools-my.sharepoint.com/:p:/g/personal/0613006093_my_browardschools_com/EVdsF5OCUxBMtwKG19MZ0QgBKeyFZuxYKntBUio7DRtP9A?email=Eric.Stephenson%40my.browardschools.com&e=PX4LUu
